THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN - Boys Track and Field won the South Yosemite River League (SYRL) Championships while the girls earned 2nd place, two points behind the first place team. Liberty had multiple 1st place finishers. Click on this news story to see all the results.

Performances are May 5 & 6 as well as May 11, 12, & 13. In a Western Territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, to attempt to win the hand of Laurey, a feisty farm girl.

On Friday, over 500 swimmers competed from teams across Bakersfield at the Kern Aquatic Complex for five league championships. The Patriots broke six meet records in route to winning both the boys and girls River League Championships.

Art students created works in honor of Earth Day with an exhibit outside and inside the art classroom at lunch last Wednesday, April 26. Students from beginning and intermediate classes along with AP Studio Art displayed their work.

Liberty offers multiple ways for students to earn college credit including Dual Enrollment (DE) courses and Advanced Placement (AP) classes and exams. Students in AP classes will take their exams over the next two weeks. This includes Chemistry, Psychology, Computer Science, Statistics, Calculus, English Language & Composition, and Spanish Language and Composition.

The Liberty High Choral and Theatre Departments will be presenting the classic musical comedy Oklahoma!, the first collaboration of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, May 5-6 and May 11-13.

Young Women Empowered for Leadership (YWEL) held their senior ceremony this past Friday. Liberty had seven seniors who were honored: Skarlett Griffin, Maya Lea Griffin, Samantha Peel, Maya Ramey, Marshae Sandlin, Mila Winters, and Brooklyn Stitt. In addition, Samantha Peel and Brooklyn Stitt were awarded scholarships. Thank you to Kesha Owens, Liberty math teacher, for her dedication and leadership of the Liberty YWEL program.

Liberty’s Project Lead the Way engineering freshmen took a field trip to Southern California on April 17 to tour the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the UCLA campus in Westwood. The trip was designed to expose students to job opportunities in the field of engineering, computer science, and environmental sustainability.

This year our schoolwide theme is Patriots on the Rise! We began this year with renewed hope and optimism. We had a great fall semester! And in 2023 we look forward to the opportunity to learn, grow, and make a positive impact on each other and our community. The word RISE has different components for our focus: R is for Resilience, I is for Intentional, S is for Serving others, & and E is for Enjoying the little things. Even on the toughest day, we can count on the sun rising the next morning. We are Patriots on the Rise!
