Congratulations to the following athletes who qualified for the State Championships: David Avena, Nicole Bridges, Charlie Castle, Xander Chisolm, Christian Edwards, Emma Fredrick, Ermiah Harrison, Hayden Higbee, Ethan Mahanke, Bella Turner, Brock Turner, and Brock Wattenburger. What an amazing accomplishment!

Congratulations to Grant Buckey, Xander Chisolm, and Emma Fredrick for being three of the ten Kern County Tyack Award finalists. The prestigious Tyack Award is presented to Kern County’s most outstanding senior athletes. This year, both the male and female Tyack Awards were presented to Liberty athletes. Congratulations Grant and Emma for being the 2023 Tyack Award winners!

This Wednesday – Friday, May 31 – June 2, we will be on Final Exam Bell Schedule. School begins at 8:30am and ends at 1:08pm with two periods each day: Wednesday - 1st & 2nd Period; Thursday - 3rd & 4th Period; Friday - 6th & 7th Period. The cafeteria lines and student store will be open during the nutrition break from 10:35 – 10:55am.

Emma Fredrick and Grant Buckey were both chosen as the Southwest Yosemite River League (SYRL) Scholar Athletes of the Year. Only two athletes were chosen from each league and honored at a reception hosted by the CIF Central Section. In addition, Fredrick and Buckey were also honored at the KHSD 2023 Promoting Excellence in Activities and Athletics in Kern (PEAAK) Awards earning Best Student Athlete award from among all senior athletes in the Kern High School District. Congrats Emma and Grant!

The Kern High School District held the 2023 Promoting Excellence in Activities and Athletics in Kern (PEAAK) Awards at Mechanics Bank Theater on Wednesday night. Twenty-three individual Patriots or groups were nominated. Congratulations to Emma Fredrick who won Best Female Student Athlete and Grant Buckey who won Best Male Student Athlete!

Congratulations to Art teacher Linda Brown and seven students who were selected to be in the KHSD Visual Art Showcase at the Bakersfield Museum of Art (BMOA). In addition to the honor of having work on display at the BMOA, five students won awards!

From Patsy Cline to Taylor Swift and Hank Williams to Garth Brooks, the choir performed a Country Western themed concert to close out the year. It was a fun night with a few surprises, some laugh out loud moments, and a tearjerker. The seniors where recognized and the choir boosters announced their scholarship recipients.

The symphonic band performed music from the movies at their final concert of the year. In a fun way to wrap up the year, the band performed music from The Incredibles, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Apollo 13, and Back to the Future. In addition, the seniors were recognized and the band boosters announced their scholarship recipients.

The cast and crew of Oklahoma brought the energy and “golden haze on the meadow” to five wonderful shows. Students showed of their talents including singing, acting, and dancing, to bring the famous western themed musical to the Liberty performing arts center. Since the Festival season ended in March, the Symphonic band is preparing to perform movie music at their final concert on Wednesday, May 17, at 7pm. The concert will include music from The Incredibles, Indiana Jones, Jaws, Apollo 13, Back to the Future and more!
