Approximately 100 students participated in this year’s Social Studies Honor Showcase, a voluntary academic event that highlighted student scholarship, confidence, and a genuine love of history. This year’s theme, Revolution and Reform, challenged students to engage with historical events at a deeper, more analytical level and to consider how the past continues to shape the world we live in today.
Through a rigorous project-based learning experience, students conducted in-depth research, wrote a process paper, compiled a formal biography, and created a historical board presentation to serve as a visual aid. Students then presented their work to history classes, administrators, teachers, district leaders, and parents. As students explained their topics, they clearly articulated why they chose their subject and frequently connected their learning to current global and societal issues, making history feel authentic, relevant, and alive.

Liberty High School’s Robotics team had an outstanding showing at the California Central Coast VEX Robotics Competition held on January 17 in San Luis Obispo, California. Competing against 49 teams from across the region, our students demonstrated exceptional skill, and teamwork earning multiple awards and qualifying for the State Championship, which will once again be hosted next month at Cal State Bakersfield.
The VEX Robotics competition challenges students worldwide with the same engineering problem each year. At Liberty, students are organized into several smaller teams, each responsible for designing, building, programming, and refining their own robot to complete that year’s challenge. This structure allows students to collaborate deeply while also developing leadership, problem-solving, and engineering skills.

Liberty High School proudly hosted its Inaugural State of the FFA Address on January 20, marking a significant milestone for the reinstated Liberty FFA program. Held as part of a mid-year family night, the event brought together more than 200 family members, community partners, staff, and nearly 100 student members to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of the program in just its first semester back after nearly 12 years of inactivity. From the opening ceremonies to student-led reports, the evening highlighted a program that is not just active, but thriving.

One of the most meaningful opportunities for student voice at Liberty is the Principal Roundtable, a dynamic group made up of nearly 50 students representing all grade levels across campus. This group meets monthly with Principal Slayton to share celebrations, raise concerns, and engage in thoughtful dialogue about issues impacting student life and learning at Liberty.
The Principal Roundtable serves as both a sounding board and a think tank where students have the chance to speak directly with Principal Slayton about what is going well on campus, as well as areas where they see opportunities for growth. At the same time, Principal Slayton relies on this group to help think through important topics, initiatives, and decisions that shape the school community.

Liberty High School’s library is buzzing with excitement thanks to the newest addition to campus, a novel vending machine! Unveiled today during lunch, this vibrant machine is stocked with more than 300 novels spanning a wide range of genres, ensuring there is truly a book for every reader.
What makes this vending machine especially special is how students earn the opportunity to use it. Students can redeem 25 Patriot Points at the PRIDE Store for a golden token, which allows them to select a free book from the machine to keep. The PRIDE Store itself continues to be a popular destination on campus, offering everything from sweatshirts and hats to candy and other fun incentives. Students earn Patriot Points by demonstrating Liberty’s core values: Power of One, Responsibility, Integrity, Dedication, and Everyone.

Each year during finals week, Liberty’s Physical Education Department hosts one of its most anticipated traditions: the annual PE Red Shirt Competition. This optional but highly competitive event challenges students to push their physical limits while celebrating personal growth, school history, and athletic excellence.
All PE students complete the same fitness tests as part of their final: the mile, 800m, 200m, and the Pacer test. However, students who wish to take their performance to the next level can volunteer to compete in the Red Shirt Competition by signing up prior to the first day of testing. To be eligible, competitors must complete all four events, reinforcing the importance of well rounded fitness. While the final is required for everyone, the Red Shirt Competition is entirely optional and driven by student motivation and pride.

This year’s theme, Keep Going, Keep Growing, has truly come to life across our campus. From the playing fields to the fine arts stage, and most importantly in the classroom, our students have demonstrated tremendous grit, resilience, and determination.

This past Wednesday, our school community came together to celebrate nine incredible student-athletes who have committed to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level. Surrounded by family, friends, coaches, and staff, each athlete signed their letter of intent, marking a proud milestone in their journey.

At Liberty, we believe deeply in our core value, the Power of One. The idea that one person, one choice, one act of kindness can make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. This week’s stories are a powerful reminder that when individuals act with heart and purpose, their impact ripples far beyond a single moment or place. They also reflect the E in our PRIDE core values, Everyone, because at Liberty, every person matters. We want all to feel blessed, loved, and seen, and our students and staff consistently go above and beyond to make that a reality. Whether through service, compassion, or stepping up when someone is in need, the Power of One is alive and well across our campus and community.
