Project Lead the Way Bio-Med Pathway Completers Recognized

Thirty-four graduating seniors in Liberty’s Project Lead the Way program donned white lab coats at a ceremony in the cafeteria Wednesday, May 14, marking the completion of their  biomedical science courses and the students’ commitment to the program. More than 150 family members and friends came to celebrate the students.

The coats are embroidered with the Project Lead the Way emblem, an atom with the words “Project Lead the Way” and with the students’ names. Cory Brackett, the senior biomed teacher, announced the students’ names and Antoinette Scheler, the freshman biomed teacher, put the coats on the students. Project Lead the Way Counselor Jennifer Ayres and Kevin Giese, junior biomed teacher, presented students who earned the PLTW Scholar Medallion with their medallions.

“Students can take these white coats to college and wear them in their lab courses, Mrs. Ayres said. “The presentation of the coats symbolizes the students’ preparedness for the next level of education on their way to becoming a medical professional.”

The Project Lead the Way biomedical science program is a four-year pathway that focuses on forensic science, genetic diseases, human anatomy, and much more.  Students gain experience with state-of-the-art tools and techniques that are used by professionals in hospitals and labs every day.

Mrs. Ayres said students in the program have earned acceptances at some of the most competitive universities in the state, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine and UC Santa Cruz.

“These wonderful students agreed to take an extra science class every year, demonstrating incredible dedication to the biomedical sciences,” she said. “Their commitment is truly inspiring and is already paving the way for bright futures in the healthcare field. I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work and passion they’ve shown.”
