THE BAKERSFIELD CALIFORNIAN (By Ron Stapp) - Former Cal State Bakersfield and North High standout runner Curtis Threlkeld accepted a position Thursday as the next head track and field coach at Liberty. The 2016 North graduate, who coached the Stars’ track and field program the last two years, replaces the highly-successful Ryan Renz.

The Liberty School Site Council is made up of three parents, three students, four teachers, one staff member, and the principal. The council meets four times each school year. Members are elected to two-year terms and provide feedback on school goals, actions, and expenditures. We are looking for parents who are interested in being placed on the Fall 2024 School Site Council Ballot. If interested, please click on this news story to express your interest.

Our Fall Choir Concert is Tuesday, October 8, at 7pm. It features music from the Americas that fall between the Latitudes of 30 degrees north and 30 degrees south. This festive concert features a wide variety of styles and genres. Concert begins at 7pm. All proceeds go to the Liberty High School Choir Booster Scholarship Fund.

All 9th students will take their school yearbook photo tomorrow, Tuesday, September 3, during PE. No paperwork is needed.

Students start dressing out for PE on Monday, August 26. There are multiple opportunities to purchase PE clothes with cash or check including during PE class this week. Parents can check in at the office and visit the student store from 9am-10am on Monday - Thursday when school is in session. Students can purchase PE clothes at lunch or will have an opportunity to visit the student store during their P.E. class.

Back to School Night is this Wednesday, August 28. Each teacher will provide a brief overview of their course and classroom procedures. Parents follow their student's class schedule beginning at 6:30pm. There are optional sessions in the Library at 5:30pm and the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 6pm.

Liberty has eight bus routes for students who live more than two miles from the school. The bus route master with scheduled pick-up times can be found under the resources tab on our website, the Kern High website, or clicking on this news story.

The 2024-2025 bell schedule is the same as last year and can be found on our website under “Resources” or in this news story. School starts every day at 8:30am. On most days school ends at 3:23. However, every Monday is a 1-hour early out and we have a few other 2-hour holiday early outs before Thanksgiving break, Spring break, and Memorial Day weekend. In addition, we have six days of finals, three each semester, where school ends early each day.
