Patriot PLUS Brings Student Voices Together

PLUS leaders facilitated icebreakers, small-group discussions, and activities that encouraged students from different backgrounds and grade levels to connect, share perspectives, and identify opportunities to improve campus life.

The Social Norms Survey revealed a strong foundation for building an inclusive community: 100% of the 35 students surveyed believe all people should be treated equally, 94% enjoy meeting new people and making friends, and 91% report having a positive relationship with a teacher.

Students discussed concerns ranging from academic stress and restroom access to bullying, peer relationships, and campus safety. They also brainstormed positive solutions and shared how the experience helped them feel heard and better understand their peers. In the exit evaluation, 97% reported a positive experience, and 97% believed the topics discussed could benefit Liberty students.

Teacher Tori Valdez shared her pride in the kindness and inclusivity demonstrated throughout the forum, including students intentionally welcoming others into their groups and supporting their peers.

The forum concluded with each participant making a personal “PLUS Promise,” committing to a specific action to make Liberty more welcoming, respectful, and connected. Students pledged to stand up for peers experiencing bullying, practice greater kindness and inclusion, and take accountability for their own actions.

As one student reflected, “It made me feel like I had a voice.”

The first forum was a powerful reminder that when students have opportunities to connect, listen, and lead, they can help make Liberty an even stronger community. PLUS leaders will continue reviewing student feedback and working with school administration to explore student-driven solutions.
