For weeks, students, parents, and staff planned, coordinated, and prepared. On Wednesday evening, it was especially meaningful to see families working alongside students and staff, parents providing food and encouragement, and students from across campus coming together to be part of something bigger than themselves.
Some of the most meaningful moments were found in the little things. Students stepped up to give classmates with different needs opportunities to contribute, helping them feel included and proud of their work. Student leaders demonstrated confidence, patience, and encouragement as they taught their classmates the class dances. Parents watched proudly as their children tried something new, stepped outside their comfort zones, and embraced the experience. These moments remind us that Homecoming is about so much more than building floats or learning a dance. It is about belonging, leadership, relationships, and growth.
Of course, Homecoming week brings its share of exhaustion, challenges, and even a few tears. But those experiences also teach resilience, problem-solving, compromise, patience, and teamwork. As one of our experienced class advisors wisely reminds students, no big decisions should be made during Homecoming week. Sometimes, we simply need to get through the week, get some sleep, and gain a little perspective!
A special thank you to our Activities Director, Brooke Slayton, who has led the charge in creating this memorable experience for 27 years. Her dedication, creativity, and commitment to our students have helped preserve a tradition that continues to bring our Patriot community together.
Brooke shared, “Homecoming is so much more than a spirit week and float building. It is a deeply rooted tradition that requires the entire Liberty village to bring it to life, and I am incredibly grateful for that village. The week embodies teamwork, collaboration, compromise, courage, and creativity.
“As an activities director, nothing makes my heart happier or more full than watching more than 100 students work alongside staff and parents throughout the week—and then seeing it all come together as they sing and dance in front of the crowd at halftime under the Friday night lights. I am so proud of our students, especially our leadership students, for the week they created and for the way they modeled the Patriot Way. It truly is a magical night for our kids.”
We are also grateful to our class advisors, Laurel Phillips, Brooke Richter, Korrine Stanley, Jennifer Ayres, Caitlin Blumer, Sylvia Morales, Stephen Beard, Jennifer Flessati, Toni Scheler, Tiffany Sterling, and Lauren Sheeran. Thank you for the countless hours spent organizing, problem-solving, encouraging, and supporting our students and families. Your patience, flexibility, and heart make these traditions possible.
Finally, thank you to every parent, staff member, and student who contributed to making Homecoming special. The collaboration and care on display throughout the week are a beautiful reminder of what makes Liberty such a special place.
Homecoming is more than a week of festivities. It is a celebration of belonging, connection, leadership, and Patriot pride. These are the experiences our students will carry with them long after graduation, and we are grateful for the entire Liberty village that makes them possible.
