When Assistant Principal Ron Priest began discussing how Liberty could meaningfully commemorate the 25th anniversary of 9/11, he reached out to Wrestling Coach Paul Garcia. As he so often does, Coach Garcia went above and beyond to help bring the vision to life.
Coach Garcia made sure his wrestlers were part of making the day meaningful from beginning to end. His athletes helped set up and take down the event, wrote reflections about what the day meant to them, and experienced firsthand the importance of honoring history through service and civic responsibility.
Coach Garcia also connected with community partners to secure 25 flags, a garrison flag and crane, and a donated Sugar Maple tree that will serve as a living memorial at Liberty for generations to come.
Coach Garcia serves Liberty and his athletes with a true servant’s heart. He consistently looks beyond the immediate task and asks how an experience can help young people become better human beings. Through opportunities like this, he teaches his athletes that being a Patriot is about more than the classroom, the wrestling mat, or the scoreboard. It is about service, sacrifice, remembering, and contributing to something bigger than yourself.
Coach Garcia is a light on our campus and beyond, and we are grateful for the countless ways he helps our students become not only better athletes, but better human beings.
