What makes this team so special goes far beyond wins, championships, and rankings. The Patriots possess tremendous depth and extraordinary talent, but perhaps their greatest strength is their commitment to one another. This is a team that genuinely plays for its teammates. That combination of talent, selflessness, and trust has created a culture of excellence that has propelled them throughout the season.
Defensively, Liberty has consistently demonstrated its ability to shut down opponents and prevent runs when it matters most. However, it is their offensive firepower that has captured attention not only across California but throughout the nation. Before league play had even concluded, the Patriots shattered Liberty's single-season home run record. As a team, Liberty has compiled an impressive 62 homeruns for the season making them 8th in California High School baseball history and 2nd all-time in the central section, establishing themselves as one of the most prolific offensive teams in section history.
The Patriots' lineup is filled with power from top to bottom. Freshman Pierce Buckey has launched 12 home runs this season and currently ranks No. 1 in the nation among ninth graders. Sophomore Brogan Witcher has blasted 14 home runs and holds the No. 1 national ranking among tenth graders. Junior Gavin Williams added to his impressive season in the section championship game, opening the scoring in the first inning with a two-run home run, bringing his season total to 12.
What is most impressive, however, is that these three players are far from the only offensive threats in the lineup. Opposing pitchers face a challenge from every spot in the batting order, as multiple Patriots are capable of changing the game with one swing. Their offensive depth makes them dangerous from the first batter to the last and reflects the overall strength of the program.
While the statistics are remarkable, those around the program know this team's success is rooted in its culture. The Patriots compete with confidence, support one another through every inning, and consistently put the team ahead of individual accomplishments. That unselfish approach has been a hallmark of the program and a major reason for its success.
Congratulations to Head Coach Tony Mills, his coaching staff, and every member of the Patriot baseball program on an outstanding season. Their hard work, discipline, and commitment have produced a championship season that will be remembered for years to come.
The journey continues Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. as Liberty hosts La Mirada in the CIF State Division I Playoffs. Patriot Nation is encouraged to pack the stands and support this exceptional team as they continue their pursuit of a state championship. Go Patriots!
