After selecting their freshman classes, incoming students participate in several traditions that connect them to their future graduation day. Students place their handprints on the graduating year numbers that will later appear on the field during commencement ceremonies. They also sign a “Commit to Graduate” banner that hangs proudly in the gym throughout their four years at Liberty. Finally, each freshman signs a graduation gown, adding their name to a tradition that becomes increasingly significant as graduation approaches.
Just weeks before commencement, the senior class votes to select one student to receive the gown. The honor is reserved for a classmate who has embodied the values of Liberty High School, positively impacted the student body, and left a lasting impression on the school community through their character, spirit, and involvement.
The presentation of the gown serves as the culminating moment of Liberty’s Senior Commit Ceremony, where seniors celebrate and publicly commit to their next steps after high school.
This year, the Class of 2026 selected Liabeth Sanchez as the recipient of the graduation gown honor.
Liabeth is widely recognized as the epitome of school spirit. Whether participating in school activities, cheering on classmates at events, or bringing joy to those around her through music and positivity, she has made a meaningful impact on the Liberty community. Known for writing songs and performing them on her guitar, Liabeth has a unique ability to brighten the day of everyone she encounters.
When presented with the gown, Liabeth shared how proud and honored she felt to receive the privilege, adding that she will treasure it forever.
The graduation gown tradition is more than a ceremony. It is a reflection of the relationships, memories, and sense of belonging that define the Liberty experience. Through traditions like these, Liberty continues to celebrate not only academic achievement, but also the character and community that make each graduating class special.
