Academically, Keen has maintained an impressive 4.5 GPA while balancing a demanding schedule of extracurricular involvement. His commitment to excellence in the classroom reflects the same discipline and intentionality he brings to every activity.
On the court, Keen has been a four-year Varsity tennis player, primarily competing in the number one or two spot. His dedication and competitive spirit have helped him progress deep into CIF playoffs, representing Liberty with pride and excellence.
In the arts, Keen has been a four-year member of the Liberty band, serving as a section leader and, this year, as drum major. His leadership both on and off the field has made a lasting impact. He described this year’s fall production, “Lighthouse,” as especially meaningful. The inspirational show encouraged audiences to be lights in the darkness, a message that resonates deeply with him. Keen’s Vietnamese middle name, Haidang, translates to “lighthouse.” When he once asked his parents why they chose that name, they shared that it reflected their desire for him to be a light in the world and make a difference. That mission is one Keen has wholeheartedly embraced.
Keen’s leadership extends beyond athletics and the arts. In ASB, he has served as Sophomore Class President, Junior Class Treasurer, and currently holds the position of ASB Treasurer. Through each role, he has demonstrated responsibility, organization, and a commitment to serving his peers.
As a freshman, Keen a made a courageous decision to join Speech and Debate after recognizing a personal goal: he wanted to grow in confidence and strengthen his public speaking skills. Rather than avoiding an area of discomfort, he leaned into it. He views extracurricular activities as opportunities to intentionally develop himself and fill areas for growth.
His involvement continues with Liberty’s Mock Trial team, where he will advance to state competition as a journalist, once again showing his willingness to challenge himself in new arenas.
Reflecting on his journey, Keen shared:
“At Liberty, you learn quickly on the importance of prioritization. There are countless extracurriculars to join on campus and not enough hours in the day. Remember to always find meaning in the activities you do and embrace the people you get to do it with. With that mindset, high school won't feel like busy work whatsoever.”
He also humbly added:
“Whether it be in extracurriculars or in regular schoolwork, I could not have done anything without the help of other students, friends, and staff at Liberty.”
Keen’s story is one of intentional growth, meaningful leadership, and gratitude. He has embraced every opportunity not simply to build a résumé, but to become better, more confident, more capable, and more committed to making a positive impact.
It is students like Keen Nguyen who truly make Liberty the special place that it is.
