At the San Luis Obispo competition, each team participated in seven qualification matches to determine rankings for alliance selection. Liberty’s Team 11475B delivered an exceptional performance, finishing 7–0 in qualifying rounds and earning the top seed heading into the knockout stage. In the single-elimination tournament, featuring 16 alliances of two robots each, Team 11475B’s alliance advanced through the Round of 16, quarterfinals, and semifinals to reach the championship match. After a hard-fought final, they finished as Tournament Finalists, narrowly falling to an alliance from Centennial High School. Impressively, this championship match marked the team’s only loss of the entire day.
As a result of their outstanding performance, Team 11475B earned the following honors:
- Excellence Award (Top Overall Robot)
- Skills Champion
- Tournament Finalist
These achievements earned Team 11475B a spot at the VEX Robotics State Championship next month. Liberty’s program continues to build on past success. Last year, a Liberty team qualified for and competed at the VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas against international teams. This year’s team has a strong chance of reaching that level once again.
Robotics coach Tom Johnson praised the collective effort of all Liberty teams, sharing, “All four of our teams have worked extremely hard throughout the year designing, building and testing their high quality robots to prepare them for competition. They all have extremely high integrity and are excellent representatives of Liberty High School.”
This season also reflects the dedication and growth of the entire Robotics program. Students have benefited greatly from a new, dedicated space for their practice field, allowing them to build, test, tweak, and practice in the same location. Compared to previous years when teams had to walk across campus to test their robots, this new space has increased efficiency, collaboration, and overall readiness for competition.
We are incredibly proud of the hard work, innovation, and commitment shown by our Liberty Robotics students and their advisors. We look forward to cheering on Team 11475B at the State Championship and celebrating the continued success of Liberty Robotics.
