Jason Armistead, director of the BDC, shared his pride in the group:
"I could not be more proud of this group. They exceeded every expectation we had this year. From the very first performance they knew they had something special and performance after performance they gave their absolute best. The best part is they did it for the right reasons. They didn’t perform to try and score a number they performed for each other and to top their last performance. They did that and more. I watched as they played the final 30 seconds; students, parents, and staff all had tears in their eyes. It was the best performance ever by the Liberty BDC."
Drum Major Chloe Kiser added, "No score or trophy the judges could give us would be more valuable than the experiences we've had and the community we built."
Hanna Spears, flute section leader and senior, reflected, "No matter the challenges we faced, we persevered and created a family and bond that I never thought possible. It never mattered what the score was, as long as we were proud knowing it was our best."
This incredible season would not have been possible without the dedication of our parents and community partners. They were there every step of the way, loading equipment, helping get things out on the field, and cheering for the students. Jason Armistead especially wants to thank the booster board and parents: John Weesner, Amy Rutledge, and Celina Landeris. "They have put in so much time and work to make sure all of our students are fed, dressed, have the right equipment, and everything they need to perform at the highest level. The Liberty BDC does not exist without them."
Parents shared their own experiences and gratitude for being part of the BDC community. One parent said, "I knew band would be good for my son, what I didn't know was how good it would be for me." Another added, "In this group of I don't know how many people, I've froze in the extreme cold and roasted in the 100+ degree heat. I've found so many parents who have no issues being a parent to over 100 students."
This achievement reflects not only incredible talent but also teamwork, dedication, and a shared passion for music. Congratulations to the Liberty BDC on an unforgettable season and a historic performance at the state level.
