Academic Excellence at Liberty: Recognition, Growth, and Commitment to Every Student

Adding to this distinction, Liberty has also been named a California Honor Roll School by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP), one of only three schools in the district to earn this recognition. The Honor Roll distinction is based on state CAASPP outcomes and celebrates schools where all student subgroups meet or exceed achievement thresholds on state assessments.

In addition to these statewide and national honors, Liberty was recently recognized for achieving the highest literacy growth in the district over the past school year. This accomplishment, measured through STAR test results, highlights the focused efforts of Liberty’s Literacy Team. The team has emphasized celebrating both progress and achievement, offering students incentives and certificates to encourage ongoing improvement.

That commitment to literacy will soon be visible on campus—literally. In the coming weeks, Liberty will unveil a new book vending machine filled with over 300 titles. Students can earn tokens to “purchase” books by earning Patriot Points or showing growth in their Individualized Reading Level (IRL). It’s another example of how Liberty continues to make learning both rewarding and engaging.

Principal Leandrea Slayton shared, “I am so proud of our school and academic accomplishments. As a staff we are committed to a mentality of ‘We will never be there.’ There is always room for improvement, and we are committed as a staff to continually refine and find ways to ensure that all students learn.”

One such example of that commitment is seen in the counseling department’s restructured approach to supporting freshmen. This year, counselors Kerri Ussery and Heather Graham have dedicated their focus to the incoming ninth-grade class, while Jennifer Ayres supports the Project Lead the Way freshmen. This intentional design ensures that students receive the attention, guidance, and encouragement they need during one of the most critical years of their academic journey.

Kerri Ussery shared, “Freshmen counselors are looking at quarter one grades through the lens of how we can improve our interventions and supports. We are reminded that attendance is the most important key to academic success and are reaching out to students and parents to partner with them in striving for excellence!”

Heather Graham reiterates that attendance is the common denominator in success across the board, emphasizing that being present every day sets the foundation for learning, connection, and growth.

Freshman year is one of the strongest predictors of overall success and graduation. By investing additional time and resources into this transition, Liberty continues to demonstrate its unwavering belief in every student’s potential.

At Liberty High School, the message is clear: Keep Going, Keep Growing.
