Dr. Seals served as principal at Liberty for two and a half years.
Mrs. Slayton will be a familiar face on campus, as she was an English teacher at Liberty for 17 years and varsity volleyball coach for 14 years before becoming Liberty’s Coordinator of Student Services, Testing Coordinator, PBIS Coordinator and Assistant Dean. She left Liberty more than three years ago to serve as assistant principal of administration at Foothill High School and then West High School’s assistant principal of instruction. She served in the district office this year as Director of Instruction.
For the new principal, her return to Liberty is a joyful one.
“Walking out the front door of Liberty High School three and half years ago was one of the most difficult things I have done in my life,” she said. “Liberty was home, and the staff, students, and community were my extended family. My own children grew-up running through these halls and eventually walked them as students. Being named principal of Liberty High School is a homecoming to me. I love the commitment at Liberty to excellence and to cultivating a growth mindset. This is a special place, and I am honored to work alongside staff, students, and families to ensure all students have a pathway to success.”
Mrs. Slayton praised Dr. Seals and the relationships he formed during his time at Liberty.
“It is evident to me that Dr. Seals took the time to make an authentic connection with every person he encountered. There is no doubt he has invested his heart in making sure staff and students feel a sense of belonging. Maintaining that personal connection is at the top of my priorities as I step into my role as principal of Liberty High School on Jan. 1.”
Mrs. Slayton will be Liberty’s fifth principal. Previous principals were Karen Christiansen, Pat Preston, and Libby Wyatt.
