In the competition by teams, Liberty was the only school able to place all four of its teams in the top five scores for both subjects. Our team, made up of Shaylee Stoner, Dylan Scherer, John Cai, and Sarah Chang, won the Calculus team event. The team made up of Jaden Lee, Aubrey Thompson, Gavin Hord, and Piheng Chen, took second place overall. For Stats, the team made up of Naomi Pavletich, Harman Kaur, Gavin Seals, and Liangxue Chen (Olivia) took fourth place. For Calc, the team made up of Shelbie Porter, La’akea Lancial, Elise Enoch, and Dominick Osborn took fifth place.
There were more than 130 students from 13 different high schools in Bakersfield and other cities, such as San Luis Obispo and Visalia, at the competition.
The students’ teachers are Jose Castro, Kayleigh Robertson and Wendy Wisheropp.
Mr. Castro had praise for his students: “These students work very, very hard and it shows. They are not just talented: they are also extremely dedicated and motivated. It is a pleasure and an honor, and a lot of fun, to be their teacher.”
