Robotics Competes in Region 3 Championships

The Robotics Club is an extracurricular club advised by LHS physics teacher Tom Johnson. Each team is identified with a number and a letter. On team 11475 A, the team members are Kevin Young, Edwin Aguilar, Jerico Mallari, Daniel Otero, and Rocco Borren. Members of team 11475 C are Michael Kyei, Jonathan Lo, Zoya Firdous, MariaIsabel Hinds, and Shahbaaz Gunaya. Team 11475 D members are Victor Peel, Remy Comstock, Calvin Smith, David Shao, Blake Matejka, Hector Gutierrez, and Aydin Garcia.

Each team competed in the Kern Robotics League in September, October, November and December. Liberty also had one team compete at a tournament at Cal Poly San Luis Obisbo, and all three teams competed in a skills competition at Bakersfield High School Feb. 3. At the skills competition, all three teams qualified for the California Region 3 Robotics Championships.

This year’s competition is called Over Under, a game played on a 12-by-12-square-foot field played by two alliances, competing to use their robots to move “triballs” -- triangular-shaped objects -- to goals with specific, complex rules governing the play.
