Female Historical Society Hosts Empowerment Day

“She was a true highlight of the event and shared her advice and insights with our students about uplifting and supporting other women,” said social studies teacher Tara Bula, who is one of five co-advisers to the Liberty Female Historical Society.

Students participated in a variety of activities aimed at getting to know other young women on campus, building community, and fellowshipping.  These activities allowed freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors from different corners of our campus to come together and work collectively towards the greater goal of women’s empowerment.  Students enjoyed self-care stations on mindful journaling, yoga, and identity wheels as well as team building, all in the Library Commons.

The event took two months of planning by advisers Tara Bula, Elena Franco, Alyson Moss, Kesha Owens, and Brooke Richter, as well as club President Hannah Anderson and club Vice President Madilyn Valdez.

“This event is needed now more than ever,” Mrs. Bula said. “The National Youth Risk Behavior Survey just released data showing that female teens are reporting record high rates of depression, sadness, and hopelessness.  We have the ability and opportunity here on campus to create a supportive community of young women.  Building and fostering these connections are part of the solution. The Female Historical Society is proud to host this impactful event and to continue to find ways to empower young women on our campus.”

The event started at Liberty High School in 2018 and was co-hosted by West High School in 2019.
