LHS Wrestlers Take Home Medals

Three other Liberty wrestlers placed as champions in their weight classes at the South Yosemite River League Championship competition. The two other first place varsity champions are: sophomore Dylan Garcia (116 pounds), and sophomore Vanessa Fakrogha (124 pounds). Junior varsity sophomore champion Enrique Garcia (223 pounds) placed first in his weight class. Both the boys’ varsity team and the girls’ varsity team placed second overall at the championship competition.  

 “This year’s varsity wrestling team is made up primarily of freshmen and sophomores, with a few juniors and one senior,” Coach Paul Garcia said. “They have come together as a team over the season. The boys are 11-1 in dual meet competition and the girls are 5-4. This has been one of the most supportive teams I've coached here at Liberty. They are coachable and are not afraid to face any opponents. They are wrestling rough and ready for the postseason. I give much credit to the several coaches and parents that are involved as well.” 

Varsity Liberty wrestlers will be competing in the Divisional Championship next week at Golden Valley High School. Boys’ divisionals are Friday, Feb. 10, and girls’ divisionals are Saturday, Feb. 11.
