Liberty Actors Place Well at Shakespeare Festival

Liberty students who won awards were: 1st Place Duo/Trio: Alex Young and Gracee Chambers; 3rd place Duo/Trio: Jillian Burman and Solei Brockenborough; 5th place monologue: Miranda Sanchez; 2nd Place Ensemble “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”; and Outstanding Actor in an Ensemble: Alex Young, Ellie Sandoval, Connor Trubey, and Solei Brockenborough.

Actor Connor Trubey said of the festival, “To this day This Shakespeare competition has been my favorite moment in my high school career.”

Festival Director Brian Sivesind spoke highly of the LHS actors, who are led by Perry Ware. “Liberty always brings a complete world to us every year,” he said. “They immerse themselves and their audience in that world. They show us how it’s done.” 

Mr. Ware said, “These kids are really good. We try to create a world on stage and we’re successful at it.” 

The festival was created in 1969 as the Foothill Shakespeare Festival by Foothill High School drama teacher Peg Pauly. The festival moved to Bakersfield College four years ago.
