Liberty medalists were: Roshni Bhavsar, 2nd Place, Oratorical Interpretation; Jordyn West-Martin, 2nd Place, Congressional Debate; Himmut "Mimi" Chatha, 1st Place, Congressional Debate & 1st Place Original Oratory; Ethan Bajwa, 1st Place, Original Advocacy; Ethan Moyes, 3rd Place, Original Oratory; Rahul Bhavsar, 3rd Place, Oratorical Interpretation.
The young team is small, with only 12 members who work during 30-minute lunch periods and occasional Saturday gatherings. The team started in 2019, but shut down because of the pandemic, before restarting this year with mostly brand-new participants.
“The point is to grow good speakers. That’s what we’re trying to achieve here,” Mr. Kiesel said.
The team’s next tournament will be Nov. 5 at West High School. Liberty will be hosting a Dec. 10 tournament. Judges are needed to help at the Liberty tournament, which begins at 8 a.m. Adults who would like to be judges -- training is given at the tournament -- may contact Mr. Kiesel by email: [email protected].
