This is the presentation counselors gave to current juniors prior to requesting courses for 2024-2025.

welcome to the senior registration for the class of 2025 today you'll be meeting with your counselor to talk about your status in terms of graduation and for your college to your college or trade school requirements as well as talking about classes for next year and summer school as a junior you should currently have at least 140 credits in your completed column you can check this status when you get your transcript from your account today if there are classes that need to be made up for graduation you can use summer school or possibly Apex as an option to recover these credits additionally if you have a through G requirements that weren't grades of C or better you can also make these that there's still time you can talk with your counselor today or without any classes that still need to be made up for graduation for for a through G requirements if you ever want to see a copy of your unofficial transcript you can do this through student view by clicking on course history on the left and unofficial transcript at the top keep in mind that these are only updated once per semester at the beginning of the semester if you are to apply to 4-year colleges next after your senior year you'll need to make sure that you've met all of the requirements to attend you must have grades of seas or better in college prep and above level in the class is listed on the screen the app requirement of visual Performing Arts is meant by one any of the classes on the screen at some point during your high school years you must take one of these classes to meet the a through G requirements difficulty the f if you're planning to apply for an Roc or c tech program the deadline is March 6th you can apply on the ROC website and you'll be notified in mid to late April if you've been selected for a program be sure to let your counselor know today if you have applied or are planning to apply for one of these programs as you think about your classes for next year we won highlight some of the advanced level courses we have one dual enrollment option for seniors English 12 honors received two semester credits of BC classes receives enhance GPA if there are requirements to get in both recommendation from current teachers and a minimum GPA requirement that Bakersfield College of hold on and even if you've taken English 1180 this can be a great addition to your trans if you want to take college classes simply for college credit and not High School Credit you can apply through any of the local community colleges fees or sign up you do on your own but we do have people here on campus that can help you can see mr. Tucci or any of the Kelso preps in room 1201 we also have a p classes that offered next year these are college-level courses that require you to pass a test at the end of the course in order to earn that college credit they're very challenging and do require recommendations from current teachers as well as making sure you've taken the appropriate classes that lead up to these courses there also are honors options which don't receive college credit but they do still receive the enhanced G these are also preparing you for the college level that you'll face after your senior year the government honours options are split into two categories we have the We the People course that focuses the Constitution the Bill of Rights and you learn the material and compete at a competition a local competition and can move on to higher levels the honors government does not involve the competition but at the same work requirements remember as you start signing up for your classes that all students must be enrolled in at least five classes and four of these classes your core classes how do you begin to think about colleges that you're applying for after senior year some will have SAT and ACT requirements cal state colleges and UC colleges no longer acquire these tests that many private colleges in California and other colleges outside of the state may still require these exams be sure to look at the websites of the colleges that you're going to apply to so you're clear about they're not the SAT and or act are required if you still have PE credits showing as needed on your transcript and you think you might qualify for a PE waiver you can talk with your counsel you must have participated in a sport during your sophomore year one sport equals 5 credits of PE if you are in need of making up graduation or energy requirements you can talk with your counselor about Apex options and summer school options for next year as you begin to think about applying for colleges thinking about scholarships we are options keep in mind that the Kern High School District sponsors a Naviance website another account for all Kern high school students you can sign up through your clever page the password is khsd summer school this year runs June 3rd through July 12th as always there are two three weeks semester classes you can only take one class per each semester now you look at the form that you have in front of you up at the top half of the page are the required courses you should select one course in each of the categories the level is based on your current placement and how well you're doing in that course you can make your best selection for now and talk with your counselor to make sure that you've chosen the right the right option there will be some course that also require some extra application processes and will let you know about those as a time goes on after you filled out the four required courses at the top you can choose your electives bottom half of the page you'll take this form to discuss it with your counselor in just a few minutes in the counseling office the names of the counselors are on the screen and we will be heading over there shortly
