Patriot Family,
This was another busy and exciting week at Liberty High School. Our FFA students hosted pop-up flower arrangement opportunities on campus, and it was wonderful to see both staff and students stopping by to create beautiful bouquets. Many students shared that they were purchasing flowers for their moms, grandmothers, and friends. Thank you to our FFA program for providing such a thoughtful and engaging activity for our school community.
Family Paint Night was also a highlight of the week. It was so much fun to see staff, families, and students gathered together, creating art and making memories. A heartfelt thank you to our Family Center Liaison, Amalia Pelayo, for organizing this special evening, and to our talented art teacher, Sarah Galicia, for leading the event and guiding everyone through the creative process. Events like this truly strengthen the connection between school and home.
Our winter athletic programs continue to make us proud. Congratulations to our boys and girls basketball teams on outstanding seasons. Both teams battled hard in the first round of playoffs, facing tough competition. The boys team hosted a home playoff game for the first time in several years and came up just short in a close 65–69 loss to SLO. We are proud of the dedication and resilience shown by both programs throughout the season.
Our soccer and wrestling teams are still going strong. The boys soccer team defeated Arroyo Grande 3–0 at home Saturday night and will take on Pioneer Valley in the quarterfinals at home this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. Girls soccer will face SLO in the quarterfinals at home Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. We hope to see a great crowd out supporting our athletes.
Wrestling had an outstanding showing this weekend, with 10 boys and 8 girls qualifying for next week’s Central Section Masters (State Qualifier) Tournament in Fresno. An extra congratulations to our four boys who defended their CIF championships: Andrew Meyers, Ronin Davis, JJ Romero, and Gabe Atkinson. What an incredible accomplishment!
As we look ahead to another exciting week, please be aware that Progress 3 grades have been posted. I encourage families to take a few moments to review grades with your students and connect with teachers if you have any questions.
Thank you for your continued support of Liberty High School. It is a great day to be a Patriot!
Your partner in learning and growing,
Leandrea Slayton

Student Spotlight: Senior Keen Nguyen
There are many outstanding students at Liberty High School who find multiple ways to be involved, and senior Keen Nguyen is certainly one of them. In a recent conversation, Keen reflected on what has motivated him throughout his four years at Liberty, and his message to underclassmen was simple but powerful: it is never too late to get involved.
Keen shared that though he was involved in multiple activites his freshman year, he continued to look for new things to get involved in that challenged him and helped him grow. That intentional approach has led to an incredibly well-rounded and impactful high school experience.

Academic Decathlon Makes History at County Competition
On Saturday, February 7, Liberty’s Academic Decathlon team delivered a historic performance at the Kern County Academic Decathlon competition. Competing against 14 schools, Liberty earned an impressive 6th place overall, a tremendous accomplishment and the highest finish in school history. Just one year ago, the team placed 14th out of 18 schools. As the team motto reminds us, progress matters: as long as we improve each year, we are succeeding.
This year, the team embraced the quote “Ancora Imparo” – Michelangelo, at 87 years old. The Italian phrase means, “I am still learning.” It reflects the belief that learning is not an end result but a continuous journey. Under the leadership of coaches Mr. Hartman and Ms.Rascon, our students embodied this mindset, demonstrating resilience, growth, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
