Patriot Family,
This week gave us so much to celebrate across our campus. I had the opportunity to stop by Winter Formal as students checked in, and I truly loved seeing everyone dressed up and excited for the evening. Our students looked incredible. We hosted nearly 1,200 students at this Gatsby-themed event, which was planned and hosted by Liberty’s senior ASB. The senior leadership students, along with our activities director, Brooke Slayton, once again delivered an outstanding event. Every detail was thoughtfully planned, and the venue was beautiful. I am incredibly appreciative of the time, effort, and care that go into creating a top-notch experience like this for our students.
In addition, I had the opportunity to watch our prosecution Mock Trial team compete yesterday at the courthouse against Highland in the KCSOS-hosted event. I was absolutely blown away. Next week, I will highlight the team in greater detail and share some of the accolades our students have earned this season. For now, I want to emphasize just how impressive these students are in their critical thinking, knowledge of the law, creativity, and teamwork. If you are not familiar with Mock Trial, I will admit that this was my first time witnessing an actual competition. What I saw was some of the best project-based learning I have experienced in my years as an educator. More details to come next week.
I would also like to thank the parents who attended Coffee with the Principal on Friday morning. I truly enjoyed the conversation and the constructive input as we continue to partner together in educating and preparing our students for life beyond high school. I am looking forward to our next event in March and encourage more families to participate as we navigate this complex world together. No one loves our students more than you do as families, and together, most things are figureoutable.
I want to encourage senior families to connect with our Parent Center and to attend the upcoming Senior Palooza featured in this newsletter. There will be an opportunity to win extra graduation tickets and, most importantly, to ensure that all students have applied for FAFSA. Even if families do not qualify for grants, FAFSA is required by many colleges to be eligible for scholarships, student loans, and work-study opportunities. The application window closes at the beginning of March.
Finally, I am looking forward to attending the state We the People competition this coming Saturday in Sacramento and wish our outstanding team and their coach, Brooke Richter, the very best of luck.
Your partner in learning and growing, Leandrea Slayton Principal
