Patriot Family, ,
There were many highlights for me this week, and they all reflect what makes Liberty such a special place.
One standout moment was being at Senior Night for wrestling, where we honored 15 senior wrestlers, both boys and girls, for their commitment to Liberty Wrestling. Several seniors shared their plans for life after high school, with a few preparing to serve our country by joining a branch of the armed forces. A particularly meaningful moment came when one of our seniors, who has recently committed to the United States Marines, was surprised by a Marine who came to personally recognize and honor that commitment. I am incredibly proud of all of our wrestlers and truly love this time of year as our seniors begin taking important steps toward their next chapter.
I also enjoyed hearing about the accomplishments of our Agriculture program during the first semester and seeing students in their official dress. It is exciting to see strong traditions developing, especially through the partnerships being built with our families and community in this endeavor.
On Friday, our Social Studies Honor Society students absolutely knocked my socks off with their professionalism and articulation during the History Day Showcase. It was wonderful to see so many parents in attendance, engaging with students and asking thoughtful questions. In addition, our We the People students hosted a family night last Wednesday in preparation for their upcoming state competition. Families had the opportunity to watch a dress rehearsal and see students in action. These students have put in hours of work preparing and I look forward to seeing them compete in Sacramento in two weeks. In addition, Mock Trial had an impressive win Wednesday night against Ridgeview.
Thank you, Liberty families and community, for your continued commitment, support, and partnership. Together, we are creating meaningful experiences and lasting memories for our students.
Your partner in learning and growing, Leandrea Slayton Principal

Liberty Robotics Team, 11475B Qualifies for State
Liberty High School’s Robotics team had an outstanding showing at the California Central Coast VEX Robotics Competition held on January 17 in San Luis Obispo, California. Competing against 49 teams from across the region, our students demonstrated exceptional skill, and teamwork earning multiple awards and qualifying for the State Championship, which will once again be hosted next month at Cal State Bakersfield.
The VEX Robotics competition challenges students worldwide with the same engineering problem each year. At Liberty, students are organized into several smaller teams, each responsible for designing, building, programming, and refining their own robot to complete that year’s challenge. This structure allows students to collaborate deeply while also developing leadership, problem-solving, and engineering skills.

Liberty FFA Celebrates a Thriving Return at Mid-Year Family Night
Liberty High School proudly hosted its Inaugural State of the FFA Address on January 20, marking a significant milestone for the reinstated Liberty FFA program. Held as part of a mid-year family night, the event brought together more than 200 family members, community partners, staff, and nearly 100 student members to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of the program in just its first semester back after nearly 12 years of inactivity. From the opening ceremonies to student-led reports, the evening highlighted a program that is not just active, but thriving.

Social Studies Honor Showcase Brings History to Life
Approximately 100 students participated in this year’s Social Studies Honor Showcase, a voluntary academic event that highlighted student scholarship, confidence, and a genuine love of history. This year’s theme, Revolution and Reform, challenged students to engage with historical events at a deeper, more analytical level and to consider how the past continues to shape the world we live in today.
Through a rigorous project-based learning experience, students conducted in-depth research, wrote a process paper, compiled a formal biography, and created a historical board presentation to serve as a visual aid. Students then presented their work to history classes, administrators, teachers, district leaders, and parents. As students explained their topics, they clearly articulated why they chose their subject and frequently connected their learning to current global and societal issues, making history feel authentic, relevant, and alive.
