Patriot Family,
I hope that our staff, students, and families all had a wonderful holiday season and a restful break. Even during this time, I know many of our teams, both athletic and academic, continued to work and practice. I enjoyed seeing some of the teams compete and appreciate the dedication of all involved.
I truly love this time of year because it offers an opportunity for a fresh start. As we enter the new semester, I encourage our students and families to use this moment as a reset and to refocus on the habits, effort, and mindset it takes to be successful. So many things were accomplished 1st semester and we have much to celebrate. Even with those successes, every day is a chance to grow, learn, and build on the amazing work we’ve already done together. Some may have faced great adversity 1st semester, academically, emotionally, and personally. Remember, hope is something that can be learned and is a common denominator in those who show resiliency and can find joy and purpose, even in the struggle. The formula for hope is simple and transferable in all areas and situations.
- Know where you are (be honest)
- Know where you want to go (have a clear vision of the goal)
- Know how to get there (or have a support system to help)
It is my heart's desire that all staff, students, and family have hope and a community of support. With those things, we can accomplish amazing things. I value this community more than you can imagine. Thank you for allowing me to lead this school.
Your partner in learning and growing, Leandrea Slayton Principal

Semester 2 Reminders
As we kick off Semester 2, please keep these important reminders in mind:
-
No Food Deliveries: Students should not receive outside food deliveries during the school day.
-
Attendance Matters: Encourage students to be present and on time—attendance directly impacts learning and success.
-
New Tardy Mark – T-2: A T-2 indicates a student missed more than half of the class period without a pass. Please record tardies accurately.
-
Check Attendance and Grades: Regularly review student attendance and grades in ParentVue/StudentVue and Canvas to stay informed and support students proactively.
-
Upcoming Event – Coffee with the Principal: Watch for information about the next opportunity to connect and discuss school updates in an informal setting.
Thank you for helping our students stay on track and engaged as we continue the semester!

Red Shirt Competition Pushes PE Students to New Heights
Each year during finals week, Liberty’s Physical Education Department hosts one of its most anticipated traditions: the annual PE Red Shirt Competition. This optional but highly competitive event challenges students to push their physical limits while celebrating personal growth, school history, and athletic excellence.
All PE students complete the same fitness tests as part of their final: the mile, 800m, 200m, and the Pacer test. However, students who wish to take their performance to the next level can volunteer to compete in the Red Shirt Competition by signing up prior to the first day of testing. To be eligible, competitors must complete all four events, reinforcing the importance of well rounded fitness. While the final is required for everyone, the Red Shirt Competition is entirely optional and driven by student motivation and pride.
