Patriot Family,
I hope your student had a good first week of school! We finished the week with our first Patriot P.R.I.D.E Friday with ice cream in the quad during lunch. Patriot P.R.I.D.E is an acronym for our core values:
Power of One – One person can make a difference. We all make an impact; What kind of impact will you make?
Responsibility – We are responsible for our actions, to do the right thing for ourselves and others.
Integrity – We do the right thing, even when it is hard or when no one is looking.
Dedication - We persevere and stick with pursuing our goals, doing good and right, even when it is difficult.
Everyone – Everyone matters and is an integral part of our campus. Together we can be great!
This week’s Patriot Update provides information about purchasing an ASB sticker and PE clothes, bus schedules, our early out Mondays, this week’s safety drill, next week’s Back-to-School Night, our cell phone policy, and purchasing athletic tickets.

- Friday, August 23 is our first rally (students wear red, white, and blue)
- Wednsday, August 28 is back-to-school night, period 1 starts at 6:30pm

ASB Stickers (Buy Online or at Finance Office)
An ASB sticker attaches to a student ID card and provides free admission for the student to all Kern High athletic events (except playoffs). It also provides discounts to school events such as Formal and Prom. Buy it now to get into all our volleyball, football, and basketball games for free. Students or parents can purhcase the sticker online or at the Finance Office.

PE Clothes
Students start dressing out for PE on Monday, August 26. There are multiple opportunities to purchase PE clothes with cash or check including during PE class this week. Parents can check in at the office and visit the student store from 9am-10am on Monday - Thursday when school is in session. Students can purchase PE clothes at lunch or will have an opportunity to visit the student store during their P.E. class.

School Bus Schedules

Every Monday is a 1 Hour Early Out
Each Monday, 7th period ends at 2:23pm. Teachers use this time to collaborate with members of their department and colleagues who teach the same course. This allows teachers to work together in building quality curriculum, designing effective lessons, reviewing common assessments, and ensuring authentic literacy is integrated into each course. Scheduled Safety Drill this Thursday
This Thursday, August 22, we will conduct a Lockdown and Fire Drill. All staff were trained in our safety procedures at back to school meetings. This drill will provide staff and students an opportunity to practice our procedures. To reduce the impact on instructional time we will be on a 2nd Period Activity Schedule. In conjunction with other school districts and law enforcement agencies in Kern County, the Kern High School District uses a uniform, planned, and practiced standard response protocol (SRP).

Back to School Night
Back to School Night is this Wednesday, August 28. Each teacher will provide a brief overview of their course and classroom procedures. Parents follow their student's class schedule beginning at 6:30pm. There are optional sessions in the Library at 5:30pm and the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at 6pm.

Cell Phone Policy
Students may use cell phones, smart watches or other mobile communication devices during non-instructional time. However, mobile devices shall not be used during instructional time except when granted permission by a teacher, during an emergency, or required by an IEP or physician.

Athletic Tickets Sold Online
The Kern High School District uses GoFan.co for fans to purchase tickets for athletic contests. We encourage all tickets to be purchased online prior to the game. Students with an ASB sticker get free entry. ASB Stickers are not valid for playoffs.
