Patriot Listening Circles Bring Liberty Students Together

Last Wednesday, the tradition continued as more than 70 students gathered in the gym during 3rd period. The purpose was simple yet powerful: to connect with peers they might not normally interact with and to openly discuss Liberty’s strengths and areas where growth is needed.

Participation in the Listening Circles is open to all Liberty students, and staff members may also nominate students to participate or even help facilitate the sessions. This year’s event highlighted the wide involvement of the school community, with 51 students actively engaging in discussions and 33 trained student facilitators guiding the process.

The session began with lighthearted icebreakers, helping students feel at ease before transitioning into deeper conversations. At the close of the event, participants completed exit slips, providing reflections and feedback that will inform action planning moving forward.

For many students, the experience was both eye-opening and affirming. “It was nice to hear other students’ opinions and different aspects on life,” shared Amia Taylor, a sophomore new to Liberty this year from the Bay Area. Her words echo the program’s purpose: to make space for diverse voices and perspectives while building a stronger sense of belonging on campus.

The Patriot Listening Circles are more than just a single-day event; they are a symbol of Liberty’s ongoing commitment to fostering community, hope, and understanding. By giving students a platform to be heard, the program ensures that every Patriot has a role in shaping the future of their school.
