First Principal-Student Roundtable of the Year

Principal Slayton shared, "The best part of my job is anything that allows me to interact with students. It is important to me that all students feel their voice heard and valued. Together we can collaborate to make Liberty the best we can for all."

The Principal Student Roundtable gives students a direct voice in shaping their school experience. Last year, the group tackled the issue of food waste and trash on campus, leading the initiative to implement a share table in the cafeteria. Students who didn’t want part of their meal could leave it on the table for others who were still hungry. The table is supervised by staff and has already resulted in a noticeable decrease in food left around campus after lunch.

At this year’s first meeting, students were encouraged to share "glows, grows, and goals," celebrating what’s working well at Liberty, identifying areas that need improvement, and setting ambitions for the year ahead.

Students who attended shared how meaningful the Roundtable is to them:

"I love to talk to my peers and connect with staff. I love the opportunity to voice mine and others' opinions regarding Liberty." Avarie Heath

"Principal’s Roundtable is an amazing club in which students can connect with their peers and the Principal in a safe environment. There’s safety & inclusivity here and active listeners and problem solvers." Carmen Delgado

"Principal’s Roundtable is an amazing club to be able to share your opinion in total freedom and have the option of being a leader and more involved." Abygail Arellano

The Roundtable remains an important reminder that student voices matter. With nearly 50 students engaged in this year’s kickoff meeting, Liberty High is building a school culture where collaboration, leadership, and inclusivity are celebrated. Together, students and staff are committed to making Liberty the best it can be for everyone.
