The Power of One

The Patriot Way exemplifies Liberty’s core values. The P in the PRIDE core values stands for Power of One and that one person can make a difference. This past week a handful of our students found opportunities to exemplify the power of one by volunteering to serve in the community in a couple of ways.

On Thursday evening, twenty Liberty students from the Just Serve Club, Spirit Team, and Link Crew volunteered to serve as facilitators at American Elementary’s Family Reading Night. Students led activities and games that fostered fun and literacy.

Mrs. Lord, an English teacher at Liberty High School and advisor to Just Serve said, “”Our Liberty students were such enthusiastic and kind volunteers! They made each child and family feel so happy to be at the Family Reading Event. Our volunteers told me they had so much fun.”

Friday morning Liberty’s softball team took part in the annual Coach’s track Meet at McKinley Elementary, contributing to the success of the track meet for students with special needs. They assisted with the frisbee toss, races, and tennis ball throw. “Most importantly, they were instrumental in bringing joy and creating lasting memories for all involved” said Courtney Brown Bakersfield City School District Special Ed Coordinator.

Junior Claire Williams said everyone from the softball team wanted to make sure every student was having a great time. What she loved most was “seeing the kids smiling and having fun.”
