Dr. Audie Williams Visits With Liberty Students

Longtime Liberty Social Studies teacher Rob Saucedo invited his friend Dr. Audie Williams to visit Liberty and speak with an audience of sophomores from the National Social Studies Honor Society. Mr. Saucedo described the meeting and documentary viewing as a chance to learn from a longtime educator and author about the hardships and challenges faced by Art Williams on his journey to become the first black umpire in the national league and 2nd in MLB history. This journey included sharecropping in Arkansas, moving to Bakersfield, playing baseball, and ultimately stepping into the San Diego Stadium as an umpire in a matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.
