2023-2024 Link Crew Leader Application DUE MAY 8: https://forms.gle/cBwxarCgXwmYjLRR6
Link Crew helps support freshmen as they transition from middle school to high school, according to Link Crew Coordinator Andrea Watson. “The goal is to do that through peer mentors, the Link Crew leaders, in order to make the transition a positive experience,” Mrs. Watson said.
Link Crew has 205 leaders this year and approximately that many will be needed next year, in order to have a good freshman-to-leader ratio during monthly Freshman Link events.
“Link Crew is a benefit to incoming freshmen, but also a wonderful experience for the leaders,” Mrs. Watson said. “It gives them a chance to mentor 9th graders, meet new people, and have a voice on campus where they can be authentic leaders to the freshmen in their groups.”
Link Crew has been a Liberty program since 2001, the first school in the district to have it, according to head counselor Carmen Davis, who formerly led Link Crew.
“The leaders get so much out of working with the freshmen in terms of compassion, understanding how to prioritize other’s needs, and peer mentoring,” Ms. Davis said. “And the leaders have always been a good cross-section of our student body. Not just the typical ASB/student council students, but also ones that wouldn’t typically get involved in a leadership position. One thing I always told my Link Crew leaders, not all freshmen are going to ‘need you,’ but if you reach even one student that may have been lost without your guidance, then it’s all worth it.”
Students who have more questions may contact Mrs. Watson in room 901 or Ms. Earls in room 604.
