Students contributed enough plain rice and tube socks before Thanksgiving to make 100 warming socks for rescue animals at Kern County Animal Services. Students also donated six cases of peanut butter and enough toys and Kong balls to fill two large boxes for the animal shelter. Another 50 blankets were donated for Marley’s Mutts.
Marley’s Mutts will bring puppies and dogs to campus the week before final exams to help students de-stress, according to Activities Director Brooke Slayton.
Two other projects are planned to benefit the shelter and rescue organization, a bandana drive and the annual “Dime Wars” in the spring. Liberty students will be asked to contribute bandanas, which art students will be decorating with the words “Adopt Me” to be used at adoption events. During Dime Wars in February, students will contribute pocket change that will be given to Marley’s Mutts to “help fix broken puppies,” Mrs. Slayton said.
