Guidance Activities Calendar

What follows is a general calendar of activities. Its purpose is to give students and parents a broad overview of activities and a timeline for all grade levels. This is a generic calendar. You should check our individual web pages for exact dates for yearly events, test dates, and application deadlines.

FRESHMAN YEAR

Month

Activity to prepare for post-secondary success

October

Enroll at school onto one of the many career and college assistance programs. Take time to explore our web pages.  Visit the Career/College Center to review resources.

Take the PSAT as practice for the SAT Admission test.

November-December

Work with your counselor to develop your Four-Year Plan for post-secondary success.

December

Work with your counselor and parents to plan your courses for second semester.

April

Plan your courses for summer and your sophomore year. Take courses that help you reach your post-secondary goals.

June

Attend summer school or participate in a summer enrichment program.

Participate in a summer sports program. Do  COMMUNITY SERVICE.

SOPHOMORE YEAR

JUNIOR YEAR

Sign up for extra-curricular activities or join a new club. What about doing some Community Service? Start visiting the Career Center often and utilize your Personal Portfolio. Update and organize everything your portfolio. You will be glad you did.

October

Enroll onto one of the many career and college assistance programs. Take time to explore our web pages. Establish a regular program of searching for college and scholarship information.

October

Take the PSAT as practice for the SAT Admission test. This is the year that your scores could qualify you for National Merit Scholar.

Sign up for CSUB ITV courses offered by CSUB. See your Counselor or Career/College Center for applications.

Sign up to speak with college or military representatives. Attend the Parent Information Nights Write or go online for information on colleges.

November-December

Work with your counselor to refine your Four-Year Plan for post-secondary success. Are you on target for meeting your post-secondary goals?

Sign up for CSUB ITV courses offered by CSUB. See your Counselor or Career/College Center for applications.

Start visiting the Career Center often and utilize your Personal Portfolio. Have everything prepared for last minute deadlines.

Sign up to speak with college or military representatives.

Write or go online for information on colleges.

Narrow your choices and pursue information online or though a campus visit. You must have your scores into the colleges of your choice by December or you may miss out on an admissions.

September

Attend the Kern County College Night

October

Watch for the opening dates for online registration.

California State Colleges will open online registration via CSUMentor this month. Submit as early as possible.

University of California will open their PATHWAY applications
this month. Submit as early as possible.

September – June

Check for ACT and SAT testing dates. You can take the tests as many times as you want in order to improve your scores. Check the  Counselor’s Testing and Assessment Web Page for specific dates and information. Links to online registration are on these sites.

September

Sign up for Cal State University Bakersfield’s Early Admissions date.

Apply for your FAFSA PIN – Personal Identification Number – so that you may apply for online FAFSA in January.

October

Watch for schools that practice EARLY ADMISSIONS

Plan to apply early to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo & others

Attend Liberty’s Parent Information Nights on College Admissions

November-December

Work with your counselor to refine your Four-Year Plan for post-secondary success. Are you on target for meeting your post-secondary goals?

Attend Parent Information Night on Financial Aid.

November

Be sure your accurate Social Security Number is on file at the school — you will need it to apply for Cal Grants.

November 1 — 30

Apply online or traditional application to the colleges of your choice. Waivers are available for those who qualify.

January 1 — March 1

Apply for FAFSA— Free Application for Federal Student Aid (includes application for Cal Grants).

Complete EOP or EOPS applications if you qualify.

Attend Parent Information Night on Financial Aid.

December

Sign up for CSUB ITV courses offered by CSUB. See your Counselor or Career/College Center for applications.

December

Plan your courses for second semester.

December – March

Unless you are exempt, sign up to take the EPT/ELM for admissions to Cal State Universities.

January – February

Complete Admissions for Bakersfield College.

Plan to take the ASSET test for Bakersfield College.

January

Social Security Numbers will be e-mailed by the school to the state for Cal Grant G.P.A. Verification.

January — June

Apply for all SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES for which you qualify. Take time to search as many sites as possible. Visit Liberty’s Career Center for additional assistance.

Attend the Parent Information Night on Scholarships.

February

If available, sign up for SAT preparation classes.

March – April

Students who have completed registration and ASSET may participate in orientation and Early Enrollment for Bakersfield College.

May

Advanced Placement Tests

June

Request that your final transcript be sent to the college of your choice.

Participate in a summer work study/travel/academic program.

Watch for information from colleges on Orientation programs.
