It was a dynamic day for two Liberty siblings competing together for the final time on their home turf.
Alicia Viveros, a senior headed to Mississippi State, and her sophomore brother, Daniel, swept the girls and boys shot put titles.
Alicia threw 144-8 in the discus and a PR of 45-6 in the shot put.
Her new shot put mark is tops in the section and sixth-best in the state.
“I am really happy that I could finish strong (at home) like I wanted to,” she said.
Daniel, who will compete at the section meet with two of the best throwers in the nation in senior cousins Jacob (Clovis-Buchanan) and Jonah (Clovis) Wilson, is in the nation’s top 10 among sophomores in both events.
As Alicia’s high school career winds down with the CIF State Championships on June 2-3, she is taking time to cherish the moments of glory with her brother.
“We are really close, even at home,” Alicia said. “He is proud of me, and every time he PRs, I am super-proud of him. I hope he does the best that he possibly can. I know he has big dreams.”
